Wednesday’s session ended with gains. Bank of America, and JPMorgan Chase led the Dow’s ascent. Brands jumped up on the possibility of more debt funding for Europe and favorable quarterly data from Goldman Sachs. Seeing a $1 trillion global financing gap in the next two years, the International Monetary Fund is seeking to expand its lending capacity to $985 billion from its currently available $385 billion. Meanwhile, Goldman Sachs reported fourth-quarter earnings of $1.84 a share, exceeding street expectations of $1.24. On another note, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said producer prices dipped by 0.1% in December. Falling short of estimates, economists had anticipated a 0.1% increase last month.
