Indices closed at new record levels on Friday. Stocks including Travelers, Merck, and Boeing led Dow advancers on a variety of economic news. Financial brands JPMorgan Chase and Wells Fargo reported earnings details. JPMorgan said fourth-quarter profit dipped 37% to $4.23 billion, however, earnings of $1.76 a share exceeded expectations of $1.69. Wells Fargo said net income climbed 17% to $6.15 billion while earnings of $1.16 a share fell shy of an expected $1.23. In other news, consumer prices increased in December. The consumer price index rose 0.1% last month, as anticipated. Looking elsewhere, crude oil prices continued to rise. For the session, West Texas Intermediate crude gained 0.49% to settle at $64.11 a barrel.
