Mixed Moves

Indices closed out mixed on Friday. The Dow shed some points. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq added gains. Stocks made mixed moves in the wake of varied earnings reports. Caterpillar issued less-than-impressive results, while General Electric’s numbers exceeded expectations. Meanwhile, crude oil tacked on 74 cents to settle at $99.87 a barrel. On the horizon, energy companies such as Exxon Mobil, Anadarko and Chevron are set to release earnings details next week.
