Brands Retreat

Indices closed in red territory Monday. Morgan Stanley and Citigroup led the decline. Brands, however, moved up off session low levels as the day progressed. Meanwhile, Intel issued a profit warning. The chip titan now expects fourth-quarter revenue of $13.4 billion to $14 billion, down from a prior forecast of $14.2 billion to $15.2 billion. Analysts had expected $14.65 billion. On another note, crude oil fell $1.64 to settle at $97.77 a barrel. Looking ahead, the Federal Open Market Committee is set to issue a statement following its meeting tomorrow.
