Mixed Moves

Indices closed out mixed on Tuesday. The Dow ended just slightly in the green thanks to an afternoon rebound. The S&P 500 shed a few points and the Nasdaq added fractional gains. Brands such as Hewlett-Packard, Boeing, and Wal-Mart led advancers on the Dow. Meanwhile, the Commerce Department said U.S. retail sales for January edged up 0.4%, which was shy of an expected 0.8% increase. Elsewhere, crude oil slipped 17 cents to settle at $100.74 a barrel.
